Learn Spanish the Simple Way - Learn the Spanish Numbers the First Step!

When one wants to learn Spanish, or any other foreign language, for that matter, it is best to start with the common, simple stuff. Now learn how to count in Spanish. There is no better place to start, and no easier thing to practice!
Everybody needs to know how to tell the time, count, and do math. The numbers in Spanish are easily learned, they follow a set pattern that repeats itself,
so it makes learning fast. It is also one of the things most common to all languages, so you will have no problem hearing numbers on a daily basis.

I will concentrate on the cardinal numbers, these are the ones that describe amounts, or quantity. 1, 2, 3, these are cardinal numbers. First, second, third, these are ordinal numbers. I will save these for later. Below is a list from 0-20.
(0) CERO
(1) UNO
(2) DOS
(3) TRES
(4) QUATRO
(5) CINCO
(6) SEIS
(7) SIETE
(8) OCHO
(9) NUEVE
(10) DIEZ
(11) ONCE
(12) DOCE
(13) TRECE
(14) CATORCE
(15) QUINCE
(16) DIESISEIS
(17) DIESISEITE
(18) DIESIOCHO
(19) DIESINUEVE
(20) VIENTE

In this you need too know that any number that ends in 1 goes to the gender of the following noun, un being masculine, and una being feminine. So if I was talking about a (1) male dog, it would be un pero, or vienteun pero, (for 21 male dogs). Remember, this rule only applies to one (1), all other numbers are the same after that (neuter).

Now that you have gotten this far practice by counting forward and backward, When you tell time or say numbers in English, think them to yourself, or if you have no problem with others hearing you, out loud. This is the way fluency can develop. When you are out and in a Spanish speaking environment listen to the people talking, the more you do this, the better you will get at it. Being Fluent comes with listening as well as practice. Internalization, or turning "on" and "off" your native language will come easily the more you listen, and speak. Knowing these few numbers will get you started learning the rest of the numbering system, which is so easy!
